The US House of Representatives will be out of session starting June 3 and returning to Washington on June 13, however the US Senate will still be in session. They’ll convene on June 6th at 2pm EDT for morning business.
As many of you are aware, IASCD supported HR 1996/S. 1061, the Government Litigation Savings Act. The Board of Directors sent a letter asking the delegation support this legislation, and we were able to achieve delegation support for the bill. Senator Mike Crapo’s (R-ID) staff will be holding remote office hours in southwestern Idaho this month to take public comment relating to proposed changes at Lake Lowell and the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge and other issues. Congressman Mike Simpson (ID-02) is once again serving as a Co-Chairman of the House Sugar Caucus, and he has also joined the House Specialty Crop Caucus. Both organizations serve as informal groups providing a forum for Members and staff to discuss issues affecting both the domestic sugar industry and specialty crops.
Finally, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will hold several open houses for the general public, where people will be able to provide information on the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan Preliminary Draft Alternatives. Refuge staff will be available for interviews and discussion during open houses, noon to 3 p.m., and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
